Last week saw the launch of The Sheds at Pacific Road, a forward-thinking workspace in Birkenhead looking to support the growth of the burgeoning digital & creative sector in Wirral.
One of Wirral’s most innovative workspaces was officially opened when over 150 business, digital and creative minds attended the long-awaited launch event of The Sheds at Pacific Road.
The Sheds, located in the Pacific Road Business Hub, provides freelancers, temps, independent contractors and entrepreneurs a number of co-working options.
Shed Street offers a home away from home inside a spacious ‘garden shed’ environment, while businesses can make the most of open-plan desk space in a friendly, productive and vibrant co-working space.
The entire space is designed to encourage creative collaboration between its occupiers while providing networking opportunities and business support services.
As well as showcasing the new venue, the launch event featured an arts exhibition, live music and a short film premiere that outlined The Sheds vision to help people take the leap from home-working to co-working. In celebration of The Sheds launch, new start businesses that have been established with support from Wirral Chamber’s Enterprise Hub programme also had the opportunity to exhibit their services.
Declaring The Sheds officially open, Paula Basnett, CEO, Wirral Chamber of Commerce, said,
"We want to level the playing field for Wirral’s creative sector so they can have the benefits currently enjoyed at successful co-working spaces in other areas the country."
"I firmly believe that The Sheds initiative will go way beyond simply being seen as a business space and will become a significant cultural and social hive of activity in Wirral.”
Liam Kelly, Director of Make Liverpool and Baltic Triangle Area CIC, has been working closely on developing The Sheds concept. He said,
“At a time where aggressive development and foreign investment is pushing creatives out of Liverpool, Wirral can reap the benefits. Creativity is something not to be taken for granted, but to be embraced and encouraged. ”
Wirral Chamber of Commerce has also worked closely with The Festival of Beautiful Ideas: Wirral to expand the impact of The Sheds, with a focus on making Birkenhead and Woodside a great place to live and work.
The opening ceremony was conducted by Peter Johnson, founder of Park Group PLC and a key backer of Wirral Chamber’s Enterprise Hub. He praised Wirral’s sprit of entrepreneurship and wished success to all the new and future tenants before unveiling a ceremonial plaque.
The Sheds offers permanent spaces together with daily and weekly options for desk space which come with hi-speed wi-fi, a modern designed communal area, meeting rooms and bottomless tea and coffee.
