Wirral Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of Kate Eugeni to the role of Director of Visitor Economy.
Wirral Peninsula’s tourism sector is currently worth over £402 million, employs over 5,150 full-time equivalent jobs, and attracts over 8.5 million day and short break visitors each year. It has increased by over 39% since 2011, and employment within the sector has increased by 22%, and over 25% more visitors came to Wirral during the same period.
Kate is no stranger to Wirral businesses and brings with her a wealth of knowledge, expertise and contacts within this key sector. The role will heavily focus on the strengthening of the current visitor economy network locally and nationally. Kate commented, “I am excited to be taking over this role, visitor economy is worth over £400 million to Wirral, however, it has the opportunities and potential to become much bigger. A vibrant visitor economy will make local services viable, supporting local infrastructure and the creation of jobs.”
Kate added, “Next year will see Wirral as the Borough of Culture for the Liverpool City Region, and throughout the year we will see a series of events take place with visitors from all over the world coming to see what Wirral has to offer and it is vitally important that local business know what they need to do to get involved at these events.”
Paula Basnett, CEO at Wirral Chamber of Commerce, said, “It was important to have a strong lead in directing this vital sector. Kate is well known in the area, and has a valuable national network. The recent visit of The Giants to Wirral clearly demonstrated that Wirral and Wirral Chamber of Commerce will always ensure that our economy is promoted as a vibrant and attractive place for businesses to grow and develop, so I am delighted to offer our support to Kate Eugeni in driving forward this important sector for the benefit of Wirral.”
