Wirral Businesses thrive with RGF support from Wirral Council

Invest Wirral and Wirral Council Investment Strategy Team have developed a targeted investment strategy to support local business growth.

Working together they have ensured that the £5m secured under their Regional Growth Fund (RGF) programme has been fully allocated in support of the offshore renewable energy sector and its supply chain.

Working with Wirral based businesses, they have secured and allocated more than one third of the £10m Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) funding pot which was available to businesses located in the six Liverpool City Region Local Authority areas.

This has led to the creation of hundreds of new local jobs and tens of millions of pounds of additional investment in Wirral.

Wirral’s processes for administering grant funding have been adopted by other City Region delivery partners, having been recognised as best practice in this area.

An expansion project by British food export business, Smylie Ltd, has been recognised by central Government as a best practise example.

The success enjoyed under this new way of working places Wirral in a strong position to access future government funding and significantly raises the profile of the Boroughs businesses at a national level.
