Wirral Business Partnership brought together over 25 key business leaders from local companies and two of the Borough's leading politicians to take part in its own version of Question Time, the popular television programme.
The newly formed Wirral Business Partnership - a merger between the Wirral Investment Network and Egerton House (Wirral) Limited - arranged the event enabling both its membership and several guest businesses to pose a series questions and debate with the MPs.
Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, together with Wirral South MP, Alison McGovern, sat on the panel with Paula Basnett, Chief Executive of the Wirral Business Partnership, with the role of the Question Time chairman taken by Frank Rogers of Brown Turner Ross.
In a lively forum at Mere Brook House Hotel in Thornton Hough both MPs answered and debated questions on a number of relevant topics, including the support available for developing the economy, business rates, future economic policies, minimum wages, funding help for charities, and resolving issues related to worklessness.
David Millar, Managing Director of Birkenhead based engineers, Heap and Partners commented, "An excellent event enabling the businesses taking part to engage in topical debate and a perfect platform to meet the politicians and ask leading questions. As business people we are all facing very difficult economic times, therefore, it was refreshing to have this face to face session with our political decision makers."
Paula Basnett, Chief Executive of Wirral Business Partnership was delighted with the event, "This was a successful event, certainly one which the MP’s and the businesses found both rewarding and informative. It is our intention, as a key business partnership organisation to continue providing effective business opportunities and events which will support the growth of businesses in Wirral and the borough’s economic prosperity."
Over the coming months the Wirral Business Partnership will be engaging with both its existing membership and new members to develop an ongoing events calendar of key business meetings and networking opportunities.
