The business community in Wirral is celebrating following the Wirral Business Awards 2017.
The winners of the business awards were named on Friday 22nd September at the glittering gala dinner held at Thornton Manor attended by over 500 of the regions leading business people.
Organised by Wirral Chamber of Commerce, and supported by Headline Sponsors, Progress to Excellence Group Ltd and Russell Taylor Group, the annual event is one of the largest and most prestigious events held in the region highlighting the outstanding innovation and enterprise by companies and individuals across the spectrum of Wirral’s business community.
Hosted by award-winning journalist and Editor of Business Cloud, Chris Maguire, among this year’s special guests were Ranvir Singh Political Editor of ITV Good Morning Britain, and Steve Rotheram, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor.
Speaking about the qualities of the award winners, Paula Basnett, CEO of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, said, “This is a night when businesses come together and celebrate with each other success and achievement. This event applauds the work of our businesses community and showcases just some of the many businesses bringing national and international success to the region.
“The businesses which have reached the final clearly reflect our sector diversity, a diversity which has gained Wirral a reputation of excellence and one which not only innovates but supports success.”
Eleven awards were handed out to businesses, entrepreneurs and young people, and amongst those successful to receive winning recognition and specially commissioned award trophies were Capital Reinforcing, Unilever, Tranmere Rovers, Hoist UK, Auger and B&M Waste Services.

Asif Hamid, Chair of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, summarised the event, saying, “Wirral Business Awards was established to celebrate the outstanding performances and results by Wirral businesses and our Chamber members. There are many ways and many different types of businesses achieving success, so I am pleased that Wirral’s enterprise and innovation is rewarded by the Wirral Business Awards 2017.”
Joe Mullin, Production Manager at Capital Reinforcing, Wirral’s Outstanding Business of the Year 2017, commented, “Capital Reinforcing saw great potential in Wirral for our business when we located here, its community has embraced and helped us, and together with the amount of support we have received it has been unbelievable and certainly encouraged our growth.
He added, “To be here tonight at the Wirral Business Awards and for us to have been named the Outstanding Business of the Year is a fantastic honour for the business.”
Taking place for the eleventh year, the 2017 Wirral Business Awards welcomed a record number of applications, demonstrating the diversity and strength of Wirral’s business sector and the positive impact it is having for economic growth.
Tony Dickson, Director at Hoist UK, was delighted to have been an award winner, he said, “All of the Hoist UK team are thrilled to have been named the Business of the Year 11-49 Employees. We have grown over the years and have become a company whose engineering expertise is recognised both nationally and internationally – as a Wirral based business we are very proud of this and this award is not only recognition for everyone at Hoist UK but for Wirral as a great business location.”
The awards also held a special raffle for Autism Together, Wirral Chamber of Commerce chosen charity for 2017, the proceeds of which will be presented to the charity at a later date. The raffle was generously supported through prize donations from Stena Line, Christian Smith Photography, Contessa Hotels, Shootin Boots, Wirral Life, No1 Mostyn Square, The Contact Company, Mere Brook House, Lets Go!
