Bromborough based exporter, Smylies, has recently been recognised in the British Chambers of Commerce UK Business Heroes campaign for its ongoing community outreach and support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company has been awarded a UK Business Hero award, after being nominated by the Wirral Chamber for the local and national support that it has provided throughout the year. This support included donating food and drink supplies to Neo Community Wirral, a £1,500 cash donation to the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and a virtual Land’s End to John O’Groats duathlon which raised £7,000 for Dementia Together and The Northern Lights Children Charity.
“It’s been a really tough year for so many people and we wanted to be able to support those who needed it most in any way we could. We have been encouraged to see such uplifting community spirit throughout the UK these past few months and were happy to have been a small part of it,” says Chris Smylie, Managing Director at Smylies.
“The Smylies team works really hard on our charity fundraising every year, supporting our chosen charities with a variety of events and activities, but they have gone above on beyond this year and this award is the recognition they deserve. We are just pleased to have been able to help, when it was needed most.”
Smylies will also be sponsoring Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s ‘Drive-In Home for Christmas’, held at Tranmere Rovers Football Club from 11-12 December. A socially distanced drive-in cinema experience, showing eight classic Christmas films across three days with food and drink packages available and a prize raffle, all raising vital funds for the charity.
Head of Charity, Katrina Bury said: “At a time when our charity events have been heavily impacted by the pandemic and following the wonderful success of our first drive-in event Movies at the Manor in August, we wanted to bring something special to our supporters during Christmas time.
“Not only will it raise vital funds to support the work of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, but it’ll give supporters a fantastic Christmas experience with the backdrop of Prenton Park Stadium in their sights. We want to thank our event sponsors Tranmere Rovers FC, Smylies, Westminster Associates, The Clatterbridge Private Clinic and Mitchell Mazda for making Drive-in Home for Christmas possible.”
