Sun Valley donates to the Rucksack Challenge

Wirral Chamber of Commerce patron member and international business, Sun Valley Ltd., has provided great support in helping The Lauries Rucksack Challenge 2017.

The Lauries Rucksack Challenge 2017 initiative looks to support the homeless in Wirral, and, as such staff and management at the Bromborough based food business collected a number of rucksacks and holdalls filled with essential clothing and toiletries, together with a large donation of Sun Valley products.

The donations will now be presented on the 6th December to YMCA Wirral and the Charles Thompson Mission to help their services in supporting families, homeless and rough sleepers over the winter months ahead.

Sun Valley Ltd is a Bromborough based business which supplies a wide range of peanut and tree-nut products to retailers and manufacturers in the UK and abroad. Established in 1949 this independent, family business is also well-established as a supplier of nuts to the pub trade and hospitality sector under the brand name The Sun Valley Nut Co.

Dave Kearney, Managing Director at Sun Valley said, “As a local business we are really keen to support community initiatives and as a food manufacturer, supporting the homeless with food donations seemed like a natural thing to do. In addition our staff got involved in pulling together donations of clothing, sleeping bags and many of the other items so desperately needed. It’s great to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

Speaking on behalf of The Lauries, Paula Basnett from the Wirral Chamber of Commerce said, “This has been a truly fantastic gesture by all involved at Sun Valley, who were only too happy in getting fully involved in the Rucksack Challenge project.  Through their generous collection of food, clothing and toiletries it will offer much needed respite for those who need it most over the months ahead.”

Last year hundreds of rucksacks, sleeping bags, warm clothing, blankets, food and toiletry items were donated by businesses and individuals, collected at drop-off donation points at Egerton House (2 Tower Road, Birkenhead CH41 1FN) Pacific Road Business Hub (Pacific Road, Birkenhead CH41 1LY) and The Lauries (142 Claughton Road, Birkenhead CH41 6EY).

Year after year Wirral’s business community and public have generously donated many life saving items for both YMCA Wirral and the Charles Thompson Mission,  this year The Lauries Rucksack Challenge is looking to be bigger and better in collecting items which will make a real difference to many people’s lives.

According to the latest UK figures, collected in the autumn of 2016 and published in January 2017, 4,134 people are estimated to be sleeping rough on any one night. There was an increase of 16% from 2015 to 2016, and since 2010 rough sleeping estimates show an increase of 134%.

By donating items and filling a rucksack or bag you can make a real difference in bringing some festive cheer to Wirral’s homeless, so please help if you can by filling and donating a rucksack of vital life saving items.....
