The new Wirral Chamber of Commerce was launched on Friday 7th February with a clear and positive message that it is here to encourage and support the longterm growth of businesses in Wirral.
At the official launch event attended by over 230 key businesses people, Paula Basnett, CEO of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, told a packed audience that only by working with its membership can Wirral Chamber make a real difference in the growth of prosperity in Wirral’s economy.
Mrs Basnett said, “Wirral Chamber of Commerce is in a very strong position to drive forward strategies for economic development particularly when bidding for publicly funded business support programmes such as those planned across the Liverpool City Region. We will be engaging with our membership and exploring all opportunities to develop new initiatives and secure resources, create business accommodation for new and young enterprise growth, and we will encourage our businesses to look at developing their export markets and international trade. She added, “We are very excited about the future and to realise our objectives and to support our members aspirations Wirral Chamber will work tirelessly in representing and supporting their interests and the Wirral business community
During the event Wirral Chamber highlighted a number of its key objectives which included a single touch-point for business guidance support, promoting its export documentation and crime reduction services, business and networking events, and account management to work closely with members in supporting growth plans.
Asif Hamid, Chair, Wirral Chamber of Commerce agreed, “Our ambitions are simple – through strong partnerships we look to serve the members of Wirral Chamber and our business community by bringing together key business support services and developing initiatives which will create success and opportunity for all.
He added, “We will work with strategic partners on issues which are critical to the growth of Wirral’s economy, but this cannot be achieved without true partnership. By communicating and listening to the input of our members and our strategic partners, we will respond positively to their needs and the wider Wirral business community.”
Honorary President of Wirral Chamber and Minister of State for Employment, Esther McVey, MP Wirral West said, "I'm delighted to be able to welcome the new Wirral Chamber of Commerce to our local business landscape. I am confident it will act as a key provider of support and resources to Wirral businesses, and by linking with Government, the local Council and the wider business community it will allow businesses to have a greater impact locally, regionally and nationally.”
The event concluded with a motivational presentation by broadcaster and Olympic medalist, Steve Smith, who described links between his Olympic experience and how Wirral Chamber’s business audience could push themselves to achieve the very best they can for business success.
