Entries for the 2019 Merseyside Innovation Awards have opened, now in its 23rd year, the event celebrates creativity and innovation across the region and has a long history of contributing to the economic development of multiple businesses from across the area.
It commends companies both large and small, selecting a monthly winner between January and May. Three entrants are then chosen for the final in July, where the winner will receive a £10,000 cash prize. The runners up each receive £2,500.
In 2018, 5D Health Protection Group was victorious after addressing a major global customer and medical need in the area of biofilm testing. Now a leader in the industry, it works with academics, public health bodies and healthcare professionals in a bid to protect people, products and ideas from the detrimental effects of biofilms and microorganisms. Cloud-based intelligence app Blinx and innovative software service provider Oblige Global narrowly missed out on top spot.
This year's event will also see the return of the Prestige Award, specifically for larger businesses with a turnover of £1m to £25m, which in 2018 was awarded to Fleetsolve in recognition of offering zero carbon and off-grid services by using a combination of bio fuel and bio waste to provide sustainable electricity and heating.
Brian McCann, MIA founder and consultant at Mitchell Charlesworth Chartered Accountants, said: "The quality and calibre of innovation in Merseyside gets stronger and stronger each year and we can't wait to see what 2019 brings."
