Magenta Living recently held a jobs event, which attracted over 100 locals and resulted a number of people already securing work, whilst others await to hear from prospective employers after completing job applications.
In conjunction with the Working on Wirral (WoW) initiative, this busy event saw 22 stalls welcoming visitors to discuss; job opportunities, financial advice and potential training to increase employability.
Despite Continental Landscapes having to pull out at the last minute, they asked Magenta Living to showcase six vacancies; which resulted in nine strong applicants coming forward.
JobCentre Plus had 50 call centre vacancies to fill, two of which were taken by the end of the event and it’s looking like at least a dozen applicants will be kicking starting their new careers within a few weeks.
Andrew Byrne, from Birkenhead has struggled getting back into work after leaving his 17 year career behind due to poor health. Andrew who is a Magenta Living tenant, was referred to WoW late last year, and after receiving guidance and support, he popped along to the event to share the fantastic news that he’s starting work on 16th February, he says: “Everything is here that you need to get you back into work. This has been really helpful and enjoyable.”
Brian Thorpe, from Bromak Recruitment also found the event a positive step forward for tackling worklessness: “We really enjoyed being part of the Magenta Living Employment Event, we spoke to lots of people who were looking for work and we’re hoping to find jobs for the majority of candidates who registered with us on the day.”
Magenta Living works with a dedicated WoW advisor; Lisa McNulty all year round to help tenants find suitable employment. Sally Kew, who works at Magenta Living to deal with employment, says: “I organised this fantastic event to bring those out of work directly in to contact with employers. The combination of having real vacancies and enthusiastic people is testament to the fact that with a little help, finding work on Wirral is possible.”
