Made In Wirral

The Wirral Peninsula covers an area of 60.35 square miles and is joined to mainland England at the north western tip of the county of Cheshire. The peninsula is actually completely surrounded by water officially making it an island, but that doesn’t stop us from being creative and having a profound effect both locally, nationally and internationally.

Wirral is at the heart of the manufacturing drive happening in the UK with both global brands and small SME’s making some truly unique products that are used around the world.

We have a wealth of large international manufacturers and SME manufacturers in the peninsula including;

Their initial success was established in the travel industry, supplying our colouring boards to food service areas in airports, ferry companies and motorway service stations.

Hoist UK

Providers of lifting and handling equipment for the industrial and entertainment market sectors, providing everything your project needs from an overhead crane system and electric chain hoists to performer winches and shackles.

Most recently Hoist provided a safety solution for NASA built Valkyrie Robot brought to the University of Edinburgh in 2016, Valkyrie is designed to push the boundaries of how humans and robots can work together, work in disaster areas where people can’t go and, eventually build habitats on Mars.

Programming an advanced piece of technology like Valkyrie to perform basic tasks such as walking and balancing is exceptionally challenging. Aware of the amount of trial and error involved in programming her, the robotics department at the university approached Hoist UK to provide a safety solution.

One thing in common with our manufacturing businesses is they are embracing the new standards and technologies open to them in both IOT and Industry 4.0 and continue to lead the way in the sector helping to showcase Wirral around the world.

We might be small but I for one am proud to call Wirral home and believe we can continue to grow and achieve greater things.
