Sometimes in life, you have to follow your dream and go for it - and there’s no better example than Dermot Morgan, who has just started his new mobile car valeting business DM Car Valeting & Detailing.
Having come from a long line of family academics, Dermot’s education was dominated by university life where he got himself a BA Hons in Economics, a B.Ed in Information Technology and a Post Grad Qualification in Mathematics. But having fell into academia, he then spent the next 25 years teaching computing, business and maths at a Wirral secondary school and a local college.
However, having reached the age where he still had the energy and capacity to do something totally different, and being in need of a change, he decided to take voluntary redundancy in order to start his own mobile car valeting business. As Dermot pointed out: “It was a risk, but I enjoyed car valeting and thought it was about time I did something for me!”
Another thing Dermot was quick to point out was that although he was academically qualified, this did not necessarily prepare him for his journey towards becoming his own boss. Dermot therefore approached Enterprise Hub (rather tentatively at first) and soon found his stride, quickly booking onto all of the workshops and attending a few one-to-ones. Within 4 months he was trading.
DM Car Valeting & Detailing offers a full range of quality, mobile car valeting services including a basic wash and clean to a more substantial clean, wax and polish. And then there’s the gold-standard executive full valet which also includes full exterior detailing (no nook or cranny can escape Dermot’s expert eye!) followed by a thorough interior clean that looks fabulous and smells like new. As Dermot says: “I want my clients to feel like it’s a ‘new car day’ every time they use DM Car Valeting & Detailing.”
And what does Dermot have planned for the future? “Well, I will be looking to spend the first year or so establishing a loyal client base but would eventually like to have my own static unit and to eventually employ someone.” And what sage wisdom does he have for others considering starting their own business? “Don’t rush into it.” he quickly responded. “Get the right support and advice. Without Enterprise Hub, my business wouldn’t exist. The team gave me the clarity and knowledge I needed to gain the confidence to start my business and I can’t thank them enough!”
