Blue Skies and Calm Waters forecast for International Trade

Forecasts produced from market leaders, Airbus and Boeing predicts the global fleet of commercial aircraft will more than double from the existing 18,000 units in operation today to in excess of 38,000 units by 2034 and we are working to be a part of that.

This year we expect another year of double digit growth and will continue to generate new employment in the region to satisfy the ever increasing demand for lightweight composite components into the aerospace sector.  To underpin our future growth ambitions, we continue to invest in research and development to stay at the forefront of composite technology.

With ambitions to grow our business globally, we remain focussed on our role locally, within the local economies of the Wirral, the City Region and the North West of England.
As a strategic member of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, we recognise the supported we have received in growing our company profile in the local area, which has been of significant importance as we expand our workforce.  The Chamber has also been instrumental in supporting us with funding opportunities both on a local and national level.

We are very much looking forward to the Liverpool International Business Festival next month and in particular, the Future Transport and Manufacturing days.

Chris Smylie – Sales Director Smylie Ltd

Smylies is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of wholesale food and drink products to retail groups, supermarkets, distributors and independents across the world. We provide a class leading service that focuses on the specific requirements of each client and their respective markets. We are a family run business that has evolved over the last 15 years to offer a complete export service for ambient, chilled and frozen foods. Our expertise in category management combined with in-house services in logistics and freight make us the preferred supplier of choice for partners worldwide.
The history of Smylies’ involvement in the food business goes back as far as the Irish potato famine of 1843 when James Smylie arrived in Manchester from Ireland and set up a provisions company selling bacon, lard, butter & cheese. Our growth since then has been remarkable and that success has been recognised again this year with our second Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade, of which we are very proud.

I was born on Wirral and have always lived here and so the business has always been based here and probably always will. Wirral is a great place to live and work and our entire workforce live locally. We rented warehouse space in Bidston for 10 years but were outgrowing it and with the help of Wirral Council and Wirral Chamber we moved into our very own purpose built warehouse in Bromborough in 2014 and have never looked back. Although all our customers and most of our suppliers are based outside Wirral we have no intention of moving on as our location in Bromborough works extremely well for us on every level.

We have been a member of Wirral Chamber of Commerce for almost 15 years. They have always been incredibly supportive of our business and have been a great help in many areas such as staff training, export documentation, networking events and just being on hand to give us informed advice and guidance on so many issues. It is great to see our chamber being so proactive and supporting so many local businesses. I honestly feel that Wirral is lucky to have such an excellent chamber doing such good work.

Looking ahead; we are always forward facing and planning for the future and we remain confident of continued opportunity and growth. We have invested heavily this year in a new CRM and warehouse management system. Couple that with investment into a new online portal for our customers to place orders directly, we are laying the foundations to grow the business over the coming years.

We have also developed our first own label brand 18 months ago called The Kings Deli, which is a range of hand cooked potato crisps and over the next year we plan on launching more ranges which we are very excited about.
