Tell us about your company?

There are two elements of the business,Virtual Personal Assistance and Business Support Services offered both locally and remotely across the UK and internationally.

Virtual Personal Assistance is offered by myself, Sarah Olsen (MD and VPA), offering prestigious Executive and Lifestyle Management PA services directly to local business owners and individuals seeking flexible support solutions for a greater work life balance.

The Business Support Services side of the business is what enables the company to meet every deadline and ensure 100% customer satisfaction time after time.  I am proud to have built a strong and reliable team who each offer specific areas of expertise and skills to our clients at the highest quality with a very efficient turnaround time.  The Business Support Team now covers local support as well as remote working so this is a great option for local businesses requiring one-off or irregular support, which they can access flexibly for a simple hourly rate.

Where do you want the business to be in two years?

In two years’ time, I plan to further develop the business in keeping with our vision to be the most reputable provider of business support and personal assistance services in Wirral by 2020.  I would like to employ a small but perfectly formed team of high quality assistants who can support the growth of this vision by continuing to build upon the strong, personal relationships and excellent communication that have become the success of the company to date.

"I plan to further develop the business in keeping with our vision to be the most reputable provider of business support and personal assistance services in Wirral."

What is your background?

I have worked as an Executive Personal Assistant, Project Coordinator and Assistant Manager in both the public and private sectors for over 10 years including the NHS and the University of Liverpool.  I was also the Managing Director of a Portrait and Wedding Photography Studio in the last 5 years managing a small team, which is an experience that sets me apart from most PAs in that I can easily relate to the experiences of a business owner, whether they be directors, sole traders or entrepreneurs.

If you could suggest one thing to Government to help business growth what would it be?

To support smaller, local businesses by reviewing available grants and each businesses’ relationship with their local communities.  I always hear people saying that they would rather “support local businesses”, which I believe would help to rebuild the sense of community and tourism appeal of individual villages and towns that have suffered so much in recent years as the national and global chains have saturated our high streets.

What do you do to relax away from the office?

I love spending time with my husband and two children when I’m not working.  We love travelling and one of our favourite parts of the country is Anglesey.

What hobbies do you have?

I love interior design and transforming tired rooms into new, exciting spaces.

Have you any hidden talents that we don’t know about?

Professional digital retouching from my days as the MD of my own Portrait and Wedding Photography Studio which comes in very handy for “touching up” blemishes, removing glare from glasses and generally perfecting family photos!

What one piece of advice would you give an 18 years old Sarah Olsen starting out today?

I would say take your time researching your dream and realistically critique every part of the journey, access professional and local business support about the next steps, keep your costs down in the first year as much as possible, take your time building the business, don’t be greedy but dream big! Take risks but only once you have researched all the pros and cons and you feel fully informed to take that next step! And finally, never take for granted the customers or clients that feed you.=

Any final thoughts?

Work hard, dream big, be yourself, and always remember the reason you started this journey.
