Tell us about your company?

Credit Management Group UK are specialists in cash flow solutions. We deal with B2B clients across many different sectors, including: construction, manufacturing, recruitment, distributors, accountants and many more; aiding them in improving their cash flow and protecting their business from bad debt.

Within Credit Management Group UK we offer a number of services designed specifically for clients to suit their credit management issues: outsourced collections for those who want the experts to carry out their collections, consultancy for those who want to carry out credit management themselves but require their ‘order to cash’ process strengthening, training for those who want a one-day in-depth guides to aspects of credit management, and support service for low cost access to credit management expert advice.

My aim is to highlight to businesses the extreme importance of effective credit management within their business. To use the old saying, Cash is King; if your business cash flow is tied up in late payments, disputes or bad debt then your business is put at serious risk.

Where do you want the business to be in two years?

In two years we will be continuing to expand the business. We are currently working towards launching our Credit Manager’s Toolkit, which will provide simple but effective insights and guidance into credit management best practice at a low cost; therefore in two years I expect this to be fully operational and a useful resource for anyone involved in collecting payment from customers. The business is also in the early stages of franchising which I would like to be up and running in two years’ time; enabling the successful work of Credit Management Group UK to reach a national market in aiding struggling credit control departments.

" Enabling the successful work of Credit Management Group UK to reach a national market in aiding struggling credit control departments."

What is your background?

I began my credit management career 25 years ago, working within my father’s business in construction, at which time I gained valuable experience of contract law. I then moved on to corporate as a credit manager for a national recruitment company, and then onto global manufacturers.

I set up the company in 2003, wanting to utilise my experience in credit management. From working within various sectors throughout my career I identified a lack of knowledge throughout, and therefore sought to set up my own business to enable me to help numerous industries simultaneously in Credit Management best practice.

If you could suggest one thing to Government to help business growth what would it be?

A much stronger push to bring the Prompt Payment Code into law would be an extremely valuable aspect to business growth as well as providing adequate enforcement for businesses affected by this. Whilst Late Payment Legislation has given businesses some leverage when collecting overdue invoices from their customers this existing law does not cover enforcement, and without enforcement there is no penalty for late payment besides a small amount of interest; there is also, therefore, no guarantee that a customer will pay once interest has been added. A detailed and realistic plan needs to be put into place by the government that will provide tangible support, guidance and adequate power for businesses to enforce Prompt Payment and Late Payment Legislation.

What do you do to relax away from the office?

To relax away from the office I reluctantly go to the gym on a regular basis, and I enjoy reading to wind down, particularly conspiracy thriller books.

What hobbies do you have?

I am a very keen skier and have spent numerous holidays exploring various ski resorts, most recently I visited Whistler in Western Canada.

Have you any hidden talents that we don’t know about?

I would say dancing would be a hidden talent of mine, or not so hidden as I have competed in the Roy Castle Lung Foundation’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ event twice.

What one piece of advice would you give an 18 years old Jenny Esau starting out today?

Believe in yourself,  with hard work, you can make your dreams come true, just take the jump!
