Inspirational and miracle are words often over-used, but perfectly describe AJ And Friends Ltd - a new care agency set up by Beverley Williams.
‘AJ’ is Beverley’s son who has had to overcome a lot of health issues throughout his young life, particularly Mitochondrial Disease. The lack of support and respite during difficult times inspired her to set up the AJ And Friends charity in November in 2018 and then AJ And Friends Ltd care agency in January this year.
AJ And Friends provides health and social care to families who have children with additional and complex needs. The service can help parents and guardians access funding for specialist care they need for their children, whilst also providing much-needed respite for the families to recharge their batteries and have a break.
Beverley is quick to point out that ‘additional needs’ is a very broad term covering a range of conditions. However, the children who come through AJ And Friends are known as VIPs becuase that’s exactly what they are – Very Important People! AJ And Friends also offer benefits to local children’s hospitals and health provisions, as this service can plug a gap to enable young patients to recover more quickly and free up vital resources.
Beverley will use additional income from AJ And Friends to support her charity, which is seeking to raise funds to increase awareness of Mitochondria and its effects on young children and families and to also provide additional support not currently funded.
AJ And Friends also offer benefits to local children’s hospitals and health provisions, as this service can plug a gap to enable young patients to recover more quickly and free up vital resources.
AJ is an inspiration – and so is his mother, Beverley.
Passionate about what she does but Beverley has also had to overcome anxiety and low self-confidence, especially whilst struggling to cope with AJ’s condition when he was on
life-support. This experience has given her an empathy andunderstanding about families who have children with additional needs, and she is building up a roster of care staff who view will their jobs as a privilege, and not just as a career.
Beverley has a Level 5 in Health and Social Care Management and will only employ staff who have the necessary qualifications to meet the high standards of care.
So how does Beverley feel about what she has achieved so far? “Very proud, excited and confident about the future.” When asked what advice she would give to someone starting their own venture, she replied: “Go for it. Have confidence in your own abilities and don’t get too down when you hit a hurdle – everything happens for a reason.”
And how did The Enterprise Hub at Wirral Chamber of Commerce help? “I had lots of help with my business plan and financial forecasts and this gave me so much confidence, for which I’m very grateful.”
