Tell us about your company?
We are corporate insurance brokers that provide innovative insurance solutions covering all areas of business insurance. We also specialise in a number of industry sectors, with bespoke offerings in the property, recruitment, water, insolvency, construction, contracting and media/creative business sectors. We are proactive and passionate in our approach toward our clients and the placement of insurance which can be viewed as a ‘necessary evil’ (as I am often told). Kingsbridge are here in order to provide advice, risk assessment and support and to protect you in a positive manner. We understand how hard our clients work, and for that reason, we look to ensure that for each business we represent this is reciprocated.
Where do you want the business to be in two years?
I’d like to see continued growth within the business and to build on my relationships with companies across Merseyside, and in particular the Wirral. I am born and bred on the Wirral and I am extremely keen to engage with local, like-minded individuals and businesses. We are taking a keen interest in the business growth the Wirral is currently experiencing and we’ll be here to assist and support this with insurance advice and support wherever it’s needed.
What is your background?
I have over 13 years’ experience in the insurance Industry, starting from just 16 years old. I’m told my age doesn’t reflect my experience and industry knowledge, hopefully I’m helping to dispel the stereotypical ‘stuffy broker’ image.
If you could suggest one thing to Government to help business growth what would it be?
I would like to see the introduction of tax breaks for new and established businesses alike. Specifically, the recent and consecutive increases of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is impacting on businesses nationwide. In 2015 the rate was increased from 6% to 9.5%, then again in 2016 to 10%. In June 2017 this will increase further to 12%, so within 2 years the rate has doubled. Such a significant hike in a short period of time is unfair and shortsighted and only increases the cost of doing business for everyone.
What do you do to relax away from the office?
Spending time with family comes top of the list. I also like dining out, Italian food is a particular favourite! I consider myself lucky to be based in one of the UK’s best cities for live music and try to get to a gig or concert as often as I can, regardless of genre.
What hobbies do you have?
Predictably football features heavily in leisure time and I get to as many games as possible for all the local teams. Sadly my playing days are over due to injury but I try and keep the effects of the Italian food at bay by running regularly or hacking around a Golf course. I travel as regularly as possible, whether it’s weekends in the Lake District, city breaks across Europe or trips to New York (my favourite place to visit)
Have you any hidden talents that don’t know about?
I coach my nephew’s youth football team (Shore Villa) which is hugely enjoyable and rewarding…I like to think of myself as a young Jose Mourinho without the grey hair- for now at least!
What piece of advice would you give an 18-year-old Andrew Hess starting out today?
Work hard and be positive!
Any final thoughts?
